Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) just got the perfect start with the new ball, which they needed the most to protect the total of 141. A dream start for Mohammed Shami in LSG colors— first ball, first wicket. Golden duck for KL Rahul. The home got a massive breakthrough on the very first ball of the second innings.

KL Rahul could not believe his eyes. Shami pitched the ball fuller and shaped it outside the off. As there were limited fielders on the boundary rope, the right-handed batter chased the ball and got a thick edge. The ball flew towards the deep backward point, where the fielder Mohsin Khan did not make any mistake to catch it near his chest using the reverse cup.

Mohammed Shami roared in joy as he had worked hard for months to take the best out of himself. In the domestic matches for the Bengal cricket team, the pacer was in stunning form after returning from the injuries. Now, he is carrying the same form for the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2026 as well.

Mohammed Shami was in stunning form for Bengal in domestic tournaments

Mohammed Shami, 35, did everything in the previous domestic season for Bengal to revive his form and place in the Indian national cricket team as well. Due to multiple injuries, followed by a major surgery, it suddenly rocked the seamer's international career. As there are multiple promising young pacers in the pipeline, Shami gradually lost his place in Team India. Though, through repeated bowling spells, he keeps the selectors' door knocking.

In the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season, the fast bowler claimed 37 wickets in 13 innings for Bengal against an economy rate of only 2.69. On February 15, in the first innings of the second semi-final of the tournament, he recorded a figure of 8/90.

In the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 (VHT 2025-26), the paceman caught 15 wickets in 7 innings for an economy rate of 6.10, and with an economy rate of 8.91, the seasoned campaigner concluded the Syed Mushtaq Ali 2025-26 (SMAT 2025-26) tournament with 16 scalps in his bag in 7 innings.

Shami proved the critics wrong again

Ahead of the IPL 2026 season, when the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured the service of Mohammed Shami, many cricket fans raised their eyebrows as some considered him an injury-prone bowler. Shami, again with his performance shut the mouths of those who had doubts over his credibility as he is well over 30 now.

"As a bowler, I will give my 100 per cent. I’ll perform my responsibilities and try to meet the expectations set for me. Rest, I can’t change my luck. All I can contribute is with my attitude and determination. If Lucknow has trusted me, I will give my all. Still, whenever you’re playing, the main element is satisfaction," Mohammed Shami said before featuring for LSG in IPL 2026.
