Yuvraj Singh's father, Yograj Singh, claims Mohammed Siraj can be one of India's greatest all-rounders if Gautam Gambhir and co. can focus on his batting in the nets alongside bowling long spells.
Mohammed Siraj was the superstar of the Indian team, as the Indians levelled the series with the hosts, England, in a nail-biting contest at The Kennington Oval, where India won by the narrowest of margins of just 6 runs, with Siraj dismissing Gus Atkinson.
The series ended with much praise for Mohammed Siraj, not only for being the highest wicket-taker in the series but also for his grit and game spirit since he has played every game of the series and has shown sheer determination to thrive as India's most hardworking bowler.
Yograj Singh's wild claim on Mohammed Siraj turning the greatest all-rounder
Former cricketer and Indian legend Yuvraj Singh's father, Yograj Singh, has once again taken the internet by storm with a claim that has spread like wildfire. Singh, in a recent interview after the conclusion of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, claimed that Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj can emerge as an excellent all-rounder.
He has made an audacious remark, commenting that Siraj, who is already an excellent bowler, can turn out to be the greatest all-rounder if the Indian management focuses on his batting. He should bat as much as bowl in the nets, which can make him an expert all-rounder, claimed the former cricketer.
"Mohammed Siraj, I have always said that he has turned out to be a very, very good bowler. If one concentrates on his batting, then this man, who is now a fast bowler, would evolve as the greatest all-rounder if he bats for 2 hours in the nets, just like he sweats with the ball," claimed Yograj Singh.
"The effect he (Siraj) has cast shows India's grit and excellence as a bowling unit that can win games for India even in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, citing that if Indian batters can put some runs on the scoreboard," he added.
Siraj ended the England series as the highest wicket-taker
Mohammed Siraj had a roller-coaster series against England. He did not have a very good start in the opening match at Headingley, but backed himself among wickets and crucial breakthroughs in Bumrah's absence for the second Test.
However, the Lord's Test would be the most unforgettable Test of his career, as his dismissal in the final innings of the Test led to India's 22-run defeat, despite Jadeja's earnest efforts to chase the modest target of 193, alongside the tailenders.
However, Siraj backed himself again in the final Test as he picked 9 wickets in the match. He shared the inspirational tale of self-belief when asked about his secret mantra for the amazing effort on the final day of the Oval Test.
Siraj picked 23 wickets in the series and ended with the most wickets for India in the series, while also being the highest wicket-taker in this WTC cycle as of now.
Will Siraj be available for the Asia Cup 2025?
Mohammed Siraj, the Indian pacer, has worked tremendously hard ever since his return to the Indian team. He was dropped from the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy squad owing to a poor show in the BGT and then played the IPL with a new franchise in IPL 2025.
Playing for the Gujarat Titans in the IPL, Siraj had a positive return to the game and was then picked for the Test series in England. Following the long series and Siraj bowling the most number of overs, his workload has been cited as a major concern over his availability for the continental championship.
The Asia Cup will be played from the 9th of September and will be played till the 28th of September, while India's Test series against the West Indies will be followed immediately from the 2nd of October.
