A huge update has come across on the future of former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni on whether he will play the next season of IPL or not.

Many feel that MS Dhoni was on his final appearance during their final league stage match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru last week. He did come on to bat in that game but the CSK weren't able to beat the RCB or score 201 runs to earn qualification in the top 4 spots.

That was not the way the franchise and MS Dhoni himself wanted to say goodbye to the richest league in the world. His efforts towards the back end of CSK's run chase did get the team close to victory but it was Virat Kohli and RCB that reached the play-offs. Now the question that is lingering on everybody's mind is whether the former India captain will return or not.

CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan says MS Dhoni has not informed anything on his future

The biggest update on MS Dhoni's future in the Indian Premier League circuit was disclosed by none other than CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan. If Dhoni had informed anything regarding his comeback in IPL 2025, then Viswanathan would have known, however, he has confirmed that the 42-year-old has not said a single thing about it.

Viswanathan further spoke about the unpredictability of MS Dhoni, claiming that he doesn't disclose such things anyway and that he decides. "He has not told us anything. He does not tell us such things anyway. He just decides." - Kasi Viswanathan said via Cricbuzz.

People who are close to MS Dhoni in the CSK dressing like head coach Stephen Fleming, have indicated that the former's feature on IPL 2025 depends on one thing. And that is his fitness level. Over the last two seasons, MSD has been playing with an injured knee as he has been often seen wearing a strap on that area.

Fleming had confirmed that MS Dhoni was giving everything for CSK despite the discomfort and recurring pain in his knee. Another school of thought has suggested that India Cement, the owners, might want to offload themselves from the franchise. If that happens, then Dhoni's role could change but it will be something the player knows himself.

MS Dhoni has scored 161 runs from the lower middle-order position in all 14 matches. He has averaged 53.67 at a strike rate of 220.55 along with 14 fours and 13 sixes. His batting performance prompted Kasi Viswanathan also to say, "The way he batted, he can surely continue. But it will be up to him."

Ambati Rayudu feels MSD will surely return

Ambati Rayudu, who played with MS Dhoni in CSK from 2018-2023, feels that the latter did not play his final game for the franchise against RCB. The former MI and CSK batter claimed that Dhoni was extremely frustrated after losing the match and that he didn't want to finish his season like that.

"I don't think this is his last game. I just don't see him wanting to end on this note. He looked a little frustrated, even when he got out. That's very unlike MS Dhoni, he just wanted to qualify and finish on a high. But you never know with MS Dhoni, he might come back next year." - Rayudu told Star Sports.
