MS Dhoni becomes only 4th Indian player to achieve unthinkable T20 record

The 43rd match of the ongoing IPL 2025 between Chennai Super Kings and Sunrisers Hyderabad is a memorable one for MS Dhoni. Dhoni joined a select list of Indian players as soon as he stepped out on the field.

The match is his 400th T20 and a testament to his long and illustrious career. The wicketkeeper-batsman has been one of the most decorated cricketers of this generation.

Dhoni has been a legend

His T20 legacy got off to a historic start way back in 2007 when he led India to the trophy in the inaugural T20 World Cup.

MS Dhoni has not looked back since then. He has made a huge mark as a batsman, wicketkeeper, and a leader not only in international cricket but in the IPL as well. In the IPL, he has led Chennai Super Kings to a record five titles.

MS Dhoni enters the 400 T20 club:

On Friday, MS Dhoni became only the fourth Indian cricketer to reach the 400 matches mark in the shortest format of the game. The other Indians to play 400 or more games are Rohit Sharma, Dinesh Karthik, and Virat Kohli.

Rohit is currently leading the list of Indian cricketers with most T20 appearances. The former India T20I captain has played 456 games in the shortest format of the game. He is followed by Karthik and Kohli.

The overall list is led by former West Indies all-rounder Kieron Pollard, who has played a staggering 695 T20s. Pollard's former West Indies teammate Dwayne Bravo is placed second with 582 games, followed by Shoaib Malik with 557.

Among the active cricketers, Andre Russell has played the most T20s. The Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder has played 546 games so far and can reach the 550 T20s mark in the ongoing season.

Talking about Dhoni's T20 numbers, the World Cup-winning captain has scored 7566 runs in T20s so far. He has an average of 38 and a strike rate of more than 135. Dhoni has hit 28 fifties in T20s. As a wicketkeeper, he has 227 catches and 91 stumpings to his name.

Dhoni is also the most capped player in the IPL. He has played 273 games so far and is followed by Rohit, Kohli, Karthik, and Jadeja in the top five.
