MS Dhoni blamed as Shivam Dube opens up about disappointment after India debut

India all-rounder Shivam Dube is having a great time right now. The left-handed batter was a part of India's squad that won the T20 World Cup 2024 title last month. Although Dube didn't have to play a big role in the tournament, his valuable contribution in the final helped India cross the line.
Recently, Star Sports released a video in which Shivam Dube can be heard speaking about the role of MS Dhoni in his cricket development. Dube is a part of the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL and has played under MS Dhoni too.
Shivam Dube talks about MS Dhoni's role in his growth as a cricketer
In the video, Dube spoke about how he felt disappointed after knowing that he wouldn't be able to play alongside MS Dhoni in Team India. His first IPL team was Royal Challengers Bangalore but later, he joined Chennai Super Kings.
It was when he joined the Super Kings, Dube's performance improved drastically as he went on to become a key player in the middle order. Dube also revealed how he could not speak to Dhoni during the early days.
"I always had a dream to play for India and play alongside MS Dhoni. When I made my India debut, Dhoni had already retired. I felt bad. Then I was not his team in the IPL as well. Finally, when I joined his team in IPL, it was a big occasion for me. I am his huge fan. Although I can talk to him a lot now but earlier, I used to be nervous while talking to him and could not speak to him," Dube said in the video.

Dube also mentioned that praise from MS Dhoni can increase the confidence of any player. He further speaks about Dhoni's role in guiding him, which helped in improving his cricket.
"He is such a big player that if he praises any other player, it would be a big thing for him. If he says something positive about you, then your confidence goes into a different level. I think his role has been very important as he has helped me in a lot of things so that I can do better. I have received a lot of guidance from him which has improved my cricket a lot. I will always be his fan irrespective of how close we are. I like spending time with him," Dube explains.
Shivam Dube's stellar performances for CSK in the IPL earned him an opportunity to play for India. In IPL 2024, he was in brilliant form with the bat as he scored 396 runs in 14 matches at an average of 36 and a strike rate of 162.29.
