Former Team India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni has been fined for overspeeding in Ranchi after his vehicle was caught violating traffic rules. Ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicketkeeper-batter’s incident grabbed attention from the cricket community.
The Jharkhand State Housing Board recently sent MS Dhoni a notice regarding the alleged misuse of a residential plot. The land was allotted strictly for residential use but might have been used for commercial activity. Dhoni had lived at this property before moving to his current residence on Ring Road.
MS Dhoni Fined Rs 1000 for Overspeeding in Ranchi Ahead of IPL 2026
MS Dhoni has been fined Rs 1000 for overspeeding in Ranchi after his vehicle was caught violating traffic rules. The e-challan was issued under Section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act, with the city’s automated traffic monitoring system detecting the speed violation near his residence.
According to reports, the incident happened close to Dhoni’s home when he was seen picking up a takeaway parcel from Maa Hotel. Once the system recorded the vehicle exceeding the permitted speed limit, a digital challan was automatically generated as part of Ranchi’s traffic enforcement mechanism.
Although the offence is a minor one, any update involving the former India captain quickly attracts attention. The incident soon circulated online, drawing reactions from fans on social media.

MS Dhoni Begins IPL 2026 Preparations With CSK at Pre-Season Camp
MS Dhoni has already started preparing for the season with Chennai Super Kings. The veteran wicketkeeper-batter joined the franchise’s pre-season camp in Chennai, which began on Sunday, March 1.

Chennai Super Kings Aim for Strong Comeback in IPL 2026
Chennai Super Kings will be hoping to bounce back in IPL 2026 after two disappointing seasons in a row. The five-time champions lifted the trophy in 2023, but their performances since then have not met expectations.
In 2025, CSK finished at the bottom of the table with just four wins and ten defeats. The team had also failed to qualify for the knockout stage in 2024, ending the campaign in fifth place and narrowly missing a playoff spot.
MS Dhoni had a quiet season with the bat last year. He scored 196 runs from 13 innings in 14 matches, striking at 135.17 with an average of 24.50. He mostly batted lower down the order and often came in during the final overs of the innings.
The 44-year-old cricketer remains an important presence within the squad. His experience, match awareness, and influence inside the dressing room continue to shape the team as CSK look to rebuild and deliver a stronger campaign in IPL 2026.
