Chennai Super Kings (CSK) legend MS Dhoni’s future in cricket has once again become a hot topic, especially with the way he’s been performing in IPL 2025. Amid growing speculation over Dhoni's retirement from the IPL, an old podcast clip featuring the former CSK skipper has gone viral on social media.

Chennai Super Kings suffered their third straight loss in IPL 2025. They were outplayed by Delhi Capitals (DC) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Saturday, April 5. Ahead of the match, there were rumours circulating about MS Dhoni’s retirement, especially after his parents were spotted at the stadium.

In the podcast with Raj Shamani, MS Dhoni was asked about his retirement from the IPL. Dhoni said that he isn’t planning to retire from the tournament, stating he’s taking things one year at a time.

"I have kept it very simple, I am still playing IPL. I am only focused on what needs to be done right now, he expressed. I am taking one year at a time," Dhoni said.

Dhoni said that he'll wait until after the current season ends to decide his future. He mentioned that it’s not just about his personal choice but also about how his body responds. The wicketkeeper-batter added that he is focused on the ongoing IPL season.

"I am 43 now and will be 44 in July by the time IPL ends. So I have then 10 months to decide whether I will play one more year or not," he further added.

"It's not me deciding, it's the body that tells you whether you can or cannot. So one year at a time, fully focused on what needs to be done right now."

Chasing 184, the Super Kings collapsed early, losing half their side for just 74 runs. MS Dhoni walked in at No. 7 to loud cheers from the Chepauk crowd, including his daughter Ziva and parents, who were watching from the stands.

Dhoni and Vijay Shankar added an unbeaten 84-run partnership off 57 balls for the sixth wicket during the run chase. While Shankar scored 69* off 54 balls, Dhoni remained not out on 30 off 26. CSK finished at 158/5, and Delhi secured their third straight win.

Dhoni has scored 76 runs from 55 balls across four matches for the Super Kings in IPL 2025, with his highest score being 30. CSK required 19 runs off the final over during the match against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati. However, Dhoni was dismissed for 16 by Sandeep Sharma, and CSK fell short by six runs.
