IPL franchise Mumbai Indians released a host of players ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Looking to revamp their bowling attack, they have released England pacer Jofra Archer who had been struggling with injury concerns. They have also traded Cameron Green to RCB for a whopping amount.

Namely, Mumbai Indians have released, Chris Jordan, Duan Jansen, Riley Meredith, and Jhye Richardson — ahead of the auction. They have traded in Romario Shepherd from the Lucknow Super Giants, who is a seam-bowling all-rounder. Mumbai have a lot of thinking to do heading into the auction in Dubai on December 19.

Talking to Star Sports, Sanjay Manjrekar named a few overseas fast bowlers that Mumbai can target in the upcoming auction to bolster their bowling attack. He said that like every other team, Mumbai might also go behind the likes of Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc. While Cummins was with KKR before removing his name from the auction last season, Starc is making a comeback in this IPL. With Australia recently having won the World Cup, Manjrekar believed that these two bowlers would be among the hot favorites.

“Mumbai Indians were pretty poor, if I have to be brutally honest, with their auction. So they have corrected most of their mistakes (with their trades and releases). I think they might need a backup overseas bowler because they have got Jason Behrendorff, there is no Jofra Archer.”

“With Australia’s recent triumph (in the ODI World Cup), you will see a lot of the Australian players, especially people like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc. So Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc could be two bowlers that Mumbai Indians would be gunning for” said Manjrekar.

Expect Mumbai Indians To Go Hard At Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc: Sanjay Manjrekar

Mumbai have a remaining purse of 17.75 crores heading into the IPL 2024 auction. They can buy a maximum of 8 players with this amount among which they have four overseas slots to fill.

“They have got about 17.5 crores. So I expect them to go hard at Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc. Also, I think somewhere at the top because Cameron Green used to bat at the top of the order and be an exciting option at No. 3 or open. They might want to have an opener as well as an option,” said Sanjay who specified that Mumbai might want to get either Cummins or Starc in the upcoming auction.
