Former English cricketer Graeme Swann highlighted Australia’s weaknesses against spin as they head into the final against India in the ICC World Cup 2023. Graeme Swann stated that Australia has “limped” into the final, while India has showcased strength in the semi-final.

India and Australia are set to face off in the World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, November 19. The Indian team will aim to avenge its loss to Australia in the 2003 World Cup final, the only title-decider clash between the two teams.

India Haven’t Shown Any Weakness – Graeme Swann

During a discussion on CNN News 18, Graeme Swann emphasized that Australia has shown glaring weaknesses against spin, contrasting their journey with India’s impressive and dominant performances throughout the tournament.

“It’s very natural to hold those demons inside when you have lost to a team. This Indian side haven’t shown any weaknesses throughout this tournament. Australia have shown glaring weaknesses against spin,” Swann said.

“Even against South Africa in the last game, they squeaked home, they didn’t dominate the game. Only chasing 212, they nearly made a hash of it. Australia have limped into the final whereas India have skipped and cartwheeled their way into the final,” he added.

India secured a convincing 6-wicket victory over Australia during the group stage. The Indian spinners played a crucial role, contributing to six dismissals. Ravindra Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav took three and two wickets, respectively, while Ravichandran Ashwin took one.

The former English spinner expressed confidence in India’s victory if they maintain a positive approach but warned against underestimating Australia. He acknowledged that both India and Australia are the most deserving teams in the tournament.

“If India approaches the game with the same sort of positivity and mindset they did in the semifinal, there is still no contest, India will win. But Australia are a team you can never ever write off, unfortunately, for an Englishman to say that,” Swann further added.

“These are the two best teams and they are in the final. This is the grandest final we are going to get. My mouth is wet with anticipation for this game. Of course, I will be supporting India. There won’t be a single Englishman on the planet who is cheering for Australia in this game.”
