NADA issues notice to Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shafali Verma in shocking dope test controversy
PC: X

NADA, the National Anti-Doping Agency, has issued a notice questioning the whereabouts of the two Indian cricketers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shefali Verma, who missed their doping tests.

The case involves the Indian youngster Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is currently part of the IPL for his franchise, the Rajasthan Royals. Female cricketer Shefali Verma, who played a massive role in India's success in the ICC Women's ODI World Cup triumph, has also been charged with the same accusations.

NADA seeks an explanation from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shefali Verma on missed dope tests

With the NADA likely to test players registered under the Registered Testing Pool (RTP), both Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shefali Verma, being such players, are supposed to register a part of the day and place for dope testing with the NADA.

Any athlete who misses three tests within 12 months under the Whereabouts Failure Act is found guilty of violating anti-doping rules. However, the two Indian cricketers will be handed an opportunity to explain the reasons behind their missed test. This was brought to light by the Indian newspaper AmarUjala.

However, as per the rules, if the athletes are unable to prove their innocence before the NADA hearing panel, then they could face a ban of up to two years. A ban for either of these two young cricketers would be a massive loss to the cricket fraternity.

What led the NADA to take action against Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shefali Verma?

Several players who are included in RTP have to register a part of the day and place for dope testing with NADA, and so were these two cricketers. The Dope Control Officer (DCO) responsible could reach out at any time and place to collect the sample.

According to the notice issued to these two cricketers, when the NADA tried reaching out to Yashasvi for the dope test on the 17th of December last year and Shefali on the 7th of November in the same year, both were not found there.

Based on their actions, the NADA sought answers from them on the 18th and 20th of February, but neither gave any answer, and hence, they registered the first missed test for both of them.

Other Indian players who are registered under the RTP of NADA

The cricketers have been handed a time phase of seven days to explain their standpoint, and the BCCI and the ICC have been updated with the information regarding the missed test of both cricketers.

Both these cricketers will have to be very cautious because two missed tests can lead them to massive trouble. They should also try to reach out with a proper explanation and try to convince the NADA hearing panel.

Alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shefali Verma, the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Axar Patel, Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant, KL Rahul, Arshdeep Singh, Tilak Verma, Deepti Sharma, and Renuka Thakur are also included in the RTP of NADA.
