The Netherlands take on England in the third and final ODI at the VRA Cricket Ground, Amstelveen on June 22, Wednesday. England have taken an unassailable 2-0 lead after winning the first two ODIs. The visitors posted the 498/4, the highest ODI score in the first ODI and chased down 236 in just over 36 overs to win the second game. They are now looking to clean sweep the hosts in the third ODI.

In between some terrific batting from the England batsmen, Netherlands skipper Pieter Seelaar had to take a forced retirement from the game amid his constant back problems. He missed the second ODI with a back issue and then decided to take immediate retirement from the game. He played 57 ODIs during his career. The right-handed batsman scored 347 runs in 39 innings. The left-arm spinner also picked 57 wickets at an average of 35.68. In 77 T20Is, he accounts for 58 wickets and 591 runs.

“Since 2020 my back problems got worse to such an extent that – much to my regret – I am no longer able to give everything I’ve got,” Seelaar was quoted as saying in a statement by the KNCB.

NED vs ENG: Match Preview – England Tour Of Netherlands 2022, 3rd ODI

England

It was another good hit out for the England batters in the second ODI. Jason Roy scored 73 along with Phil Salt’s 77 to add up 139 runs for the first wicket chasing 236. The match was finished by Moeen Ali who stayed unbeaten on 42 off 40 balls to take his side home. Meanwhile, the series has not been a good one for the England skipper, Eoin Morgan who has struggled to get runs. He has bagged ducks in both the games with England dominating the contest. He would like to get some runs in the final game. Apart from Morgan’s woeful form, the rest of the team has clicked beautifully in the series.

Scott Edwards led the team in the second ODI in the absence of Seelar. The regular skipper has announced his international retirement from the game. This leaves a massive dent to be filled in the future which starts with this series. The hosts will have to pull themselves up from two bad games and put out a performance and try to win the final game to avoid a whitewash.
