Team India remains stranded in Barbados due to Hurricane Beryl. India were scheduled to leave the island nation on Monday (July 1) after the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup final.

With the final taking place on Saturday (June 29) and Sunday being the reserve day, India were scheduled to board the flight on Monday. However, their departure has been delayed further due to the extremely dangerous Hurricane.

According to CNN, Hurricane Beryl is roaring through the Windward Islands as an extremely dangerous Category 4, delivering violent winds, intense rainfall, and life-threatening storm surge after making landfall on  Monday. It is the strongest known hurricane to pass through this region, according to data from NOAA that goes back to 1851.

The dangerous weather conditions have forced the cancellations of flights in Barbados. As a result, Team India had no option but to stay in Barbados. The members of the Indian team will be hoping that the situation improves soon so that they can leave for India and celebrate the monumental triumph on their home soil.

Jay Shah delivers an update:

As the fans in India desperately wait for their heroes to land in the country with the World Cup trophy, BCCI secretary Jay Shah has delivered an update. Shah is also stuck in Barbados along with the team and said that the board's topmost priority is to ensure the safety of the players first.

"Like you people, we are also stuck here. First, we need to see how to get the players and everyone out of here safely, and then we will think about the felicitation upon arrival in India," the BCCI secretary told PTI.

The BCCI was hoping to arrange for a chartered flight to take the team out of Barbados. However, they could not execute the plans due to the airport's closure. The news agency further reported that the board is also trying to get the traveling Indian media out of the hurricane-hit region.

Coming to the final, India beat South Africa by 7 runs in a thrilling game to lift the T20 World Cup title after a long gap of 17 years. India's first T20 World Cup win had come way back in the inaugural edition in 2007. The latest triumph has made India only the third team after West Indies and England to win the competition twice.
