Never Once Has It Crossed My Mind That I Want Rishabh Pant's Place And That’s Been The Case With Him Too – Ishan Kishan

Young Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Ishan Kishan has said that the thought of replacing wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant in the Indian team has never crossed his mind and he was confident that has been the case with Pant as well.

Rishabh Pant is the first choice wicket-keeper of the India National Cricket Team across all three formats and Ishan Kishan is being looked at as a backup opener and a backup wicket-keeper in T20 International and One Day International cricket.

Speaking to TOI, Ishan Kishan said that he and Pant are very good friends and they talk a lot about cricket and how they can improve. He added that on the field they don’t look at each other competitors.

“Oh yes, he’s [Rishabh Pant] a very good friend. Whenever both of us are around, you’ll find us hanging out a lot with each other. We just keep watching movies whenever we find the time. We also talk a lot about cricket with each other about the game, what could’ve been done differently.”

“ I speak my mind with him, and he does the same. Never once has it crossed my mind that I want his place and I can assure you, that’s been the case with him too. And most importantly, when we are in the middle of our cricket routines, we don’t even think we’re competing with each other.”

The 23-year-old further added that he loves wicket-keeping and whenever he gets the opportunity to don the wicket-keeping gloves for India he gives his best. He asserted:

“When you have good competition going with a talented player, there’s great fun to it too. You begin to realise those important things all by yourself-play good cricket and everything else will take care of itself. I love wicket-keeping so whenever an opportunity comes, I’ll try and give it my best.”

Meanwhile, the young wicketkeeper-batsman Kishan had a forgettable run in the recently concluded T20 International series against West Indies. He registered scores of 35(42), 2(10) & 34(31) in the series while opening the innings for the team.
