'It has been a beautiful journey'
The Mumbai batter reflected on his journey from playing for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to now leading India at the iconic Eden Gardens. Suryakumar said that he felt nostalgic about the memories he created while playing under Gautam Gambhir's captaincy for KKR at Eden Gardens.
Suryakumar Yadav further said, “I remember in 2014, when I came to KKR for the first time. Since then, till today, obviously, after 10-11 years, I never thought that I would ever lead India. But today, standing on this ground, thinking that I'm going to lead, because this is also a historic stadium. It's a good feeling. And it's fun to think about it. It has been a beautiful journey.”
I learned a lot of tricks and trades from Gautam Gambhir: Suryakumar Yadav
The Indian skipper also recalled how those years taught him valuable lessons and expressed happiness about returning to a place that is special to him. Surya said he had created beautiful memories in Kolkata. Notably, Gautam Gambhir is currently the head coach of the Indian cricket team.
He signed off by saying, “It feels good to think about it. Now when I sit in the room and think that when I used to play matches here in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017, it was also a beautiful memory. I've learned a lot here. Gauti Bhai was the captain at that time. I played under him here. I learned a lot of tricks and trades. So, I know this place really well. And I'm very happy to be back here again.”
