England pacer Mark Wood has said that the cash-rich Indian Premier League (IPL) offers good deals but playing international cricket for England will always remain his No.1 priority.

Speedster Wood has entered the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 mega auction which is reportedly scheduled to take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru. Some reports have stated that the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) might not allow their players to participate in the IPL after the team’s horrible run in the Ashes 2021-22 but nothing is confirmed and several English cricketers are expected to enter the IPL auction.

Meanwhile, the 32-year-old pacer has said that he has entered the IPL 2022 mega auction because he believes it will help him to learn something and get better which will eventually help him in the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which will be held in Australia. He further added that he will also have to assess the family situation before participating in the cash-rich league.

Wood stated, as quoted by the Daily Mirror, “I am in the auction at the minute. But it’s important to have that time at home and reflect. At the minute I’ll be in it. If I look ahead to the World Cup and I can learn something in the IPL, if I can put myself in pressure situations and try and get better for the end of the year, that’ll be good.

“It’s just whether the time away from home, the bubbles…I’ve done Australia without my son which has been quite hard. Especially around Christmas. So I’ll have to see how the family situation is.”

England speedster Mark Wood said that he is eyeing winning the upcoming T20 World Cup 2022 after England’s disappointing exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021 in the semi-final stage.

“No disrespect to IPL teams but England is always going to be my No.1 because when I was growing up that’s who I wanted to play for. I want to play across all three formats and that’s at the forefront of my mind.

“There’s a World Cup at the end of the year I have my eyes on. It hurt a lot this winter when we got knocked out in the semi-final and it feels as a one-day group that it’s time to push hard to leave a legacy behind,” he stated.
