After KL Rahul deal snub, KKR eyeing Australian all-rounder in mini-auction
PC: X

The 2024 IPL champions eyed the Delhi Capitals batter KL Rahul for a trade deal ahead of the mini-auction, as they were in search of a top-order batsman and a captain for the upcoming season. Instead, they will now be in the quest for Cameron Green in the mini-auction.

Though Delhi Capitals bought KL Rahul in the IPL 2025 mega-auction, they have shown interest in letting him go but have demanded massive players from other franchises in exchange for the Indian wicket-keeper batsman.

KL Rahul was the highest run-getter for the Delhi Capitals in the previous season. He amassed 500+ runs in the season and also scored a century with a staggering run rate. He played across different positions in the batting order.

KKR set hopes on KL Rahul trade with Abhishek Nayar's appointment

The Kolkata Knight Riders had targeted the Indian wicket-keeper and opening batsman KL Rahul from the Delhi Capitals camp. He could solve the opening problems for KKR, which were prevalent last season after parting ways with Phil Salt.

Neither Sunil Narine, Quinton de Kock, nor Rahmanullah Gurbaz could perform for them at the top of the order. Moreover, he could also be a leadership option for the KKR team, as Ajinkya Rahane could not manifest much.

KL Rahul has a great rapport with the currently appointed KKR head coach, Abhishek Nayar. Nayar previously contributed significantly to evolving Rahul as a great white-ball batter.

Delhi Capitals wanted two players in return for the Rahul trade

As per the latest reports from TOI reporter Sahil Malhotra, the Kolkata Knight Riders were reportedly interested in the two KKR players Varun Chakravarthy and Rinku Singh. However, the two players are not expected to be part of any trade deal for the Delhi Capitals.

The Knight Riders were instead ready to offer Andre Russell, the veteran all-rounder, in exchange for KL Rahul, but the Delhi Capitals snubbed such a proposal and seemed interested in only the spinner Varun Chakravarthy and the finisher Rinku Singh.

Kolkata Knight Riders set eyes on Cameron Green in IPL mini-auction

After KKR have failed on their trade deal over multiple players and is left with nothing until the mini-auction, which is scheduled between the 13th and 15th of December, they might be eyeing the best player up for bidding in the mini-auction.

Cameron Green, the Australian all-rounder, missed the previous season of the IPL due to his injury and will return this season. His return to international T20s was marked with consecutive half-centuries.

Cameron Green can be the one-stop solution to KKR's top-order woes. Green is a top-order batter and a quality bowler for them through the middle phase. KKR have lacked players to play massive innings, prolonging their stay at the crease.
