Abhishek Sharma made his mark in IPL 2024 and that paved the path for his T20I debut for India. He went on to score 486 runs in for Sunrisers Hyderabad and along with Travid Head redefined T20I batting within the powerplay. The only other team who matched it was the Kolkata Knight Riders who went on to win their third IPL title.

Abhishek Sharma was out for a duck in his T20I debut against Zimbabwe but he slammed his maiden T20I ton in just his second game and became the quickest Indian to score a T20I century in terms of innings taken. Unfortunately, he was pushed down the batting order as Shubman Gill who was the captain of the Indian team in that series went on to open the batting.

Recently, Abhishek Sharma in conversation with his former India U-19 teammate Manjot Kalra opened up his IPL experience and especially talked about his sister's excitement in seeing the SRH matches from the stadium. He spoke about how she became a lucky charm for him and for the team and how people started recognizing her after the IPL season.

She Became Out Lucky Charm: Abhishek Sharma On His Sister Komal

"Whenever Komal came for the matches, picking an outfit was her biggest concern. I used to tell her to wear something related to the team. The way she supported us this time, the whole team saw it and she became our lucky charm. People in Hyderabad started recognizing her and she enjoyed a lot," said Abhishek Sharma On Manjot Kalra's YouTube channel.

"This was the first time that she had come to the matches, and the team reached the final. So, I think the luck factor was there. The teammates would ask me if she was coming or not for the matches," he further added.

During the conversation, he further spoke about his friendship with Shubman Gill who is now elevated as the vice-captain of India for the T20I and ODI series against Sri Lanka. He said that the two share a really good bond between them.

"Now he's become quite busy, but whenever we meet, we talk about childhood days. We were roommates in our childhood, and we talk about those things. He is still the same. I don't think there has been even a one per cent change in him. His nature is such that he only opens up with the people he is close to. I don't think our bond will ever change," said Sharma.

Interestingly, Abhishek Sharma despite his brilliant debut series against Zimbabwe was not picked for the T20I series against Sri Lanka. India decided to include Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill who are expected to open the batting.

The Gautam-Gambhir-coached side reached Sri Lanka on May 22 and are already down to practice sessions. Suryakumar Yadav was named the new T20I skipper of the side instead of Hardik Pandya who is part of the squad.

The tour kicks off on July 27 with the T20I series in Pallekele before the teams move to Colombo for the ODIs.
