Not Sourav Ganguly! Delhi Capitals eyeing Gautam Gambhir-like World Cup winners for head coach role

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) is on the hunt for the role of head coach for the next edition of the tournament. This comes after Ricky Ponting was removed by the franchise as the head coach of the team following poor seasons for the side.

With the hunt for the head coach on, as per the reports in News 18, it is learned the franchise is in conversation with two former World Cup winners for the role of head coach and mentor. The reports also claimed that the current Director of Cricket Sourav Ganguly is unlikely to take the head coach role.

It is learned that the franchise wants a hands-on head coach who has experience in both international and domestic cricket. The franchise owners want an aggressive coach like Gautam Gambhir who can dig deep.

After the team removed Ricky Ponting as the head coach, some reports claimed that Sourav Ganguly would be taking over the role. It was learned that he would be taking up the dual role at the franchise since the team wants an Indian head coach.

It is learned that the franchise wants a hands-on head coach who has experience in both international and domestic cricket. The franchise owners want an aggressive coach like Gautam Gambhir who can dig deep and is looking at a stable coaching set-up.

The source close to Delhi Capitals claimed that there are fewer chances that Sourav Ganguly will be taking the role because he has a lot of things. He confirmed that the franchise wants someone like Gambhir, who can keep track of both international and domestic circuits. Speaking to News 18, he explained:

"Ganguly already has a lot of things on his plate – planning multiple things for the franchise as the Director of Cricket. The team needs a very hands-on coach who follows the circuit very aggressively. Like Gautam Gambhir does. It’s no surprise that he has been so successful as a mentor

“He keeps track of players – both international and domestic. The management doesn’t want a stop-gap arrangement for the head coach position as it’s the season right after the mega auction as the new cycle gets underway."

Delhi Capitals in need of a scouting team for the IPL 2024

Delhi Capitals also are in need of a scouting team. The source pointed out that they don't have anyone who has played any cricket. The owners aren't happy with the scouting team either. While talking about the same, the source claimed:

"The only person who had played some sort of cricket in the scouting team was Jagrit Anand (white-ball games for Delhi). After he was let go, the remaining two Shyantanu Chokhani and Adhishwar haven’t played any serious cricket.

"And no wonder the returns of the scouting team have been very underwhelming. Is there one cricketer who comes to mind that was unearthed by the scouting team? No,” he concluded.
