Amid calls for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's inclusion into the Indian team, Gautam Gambhir, the Indian head coach, has hinted towards the inclusion of the PBKS star into the Indian T20I side after his consecutive spectacles over the recent IPL seasons.
The Punjab Kings are currently ruling the 2026 edition of the IPL; as a result of this, every player in that lineup has been largely placed. But two of the cricketers who have been largely lauded include Prabhsimran Singh and skipper Shreyas Iyer.
The PBKS opener has amassed runs at an exemplary rate and must have taken the Indian selectors by surprise. The opener's dynamic form has forced cricket analysts and former cricketers to back him for making a debut for India within the upcoming year.
Deep Dasgupta backed Prabhsimran Singh's inclusion into the Indian team
Former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta has backed Prabhsimran Singh for being picked by the Indian selectors for the Indian T20I side. He claimed that he do not talk much about players like Prabhsimran, as much as we do about players like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi or young Ayush Mhatre.
Even Ravichandran Ashwin had pointed out on his YouTube channel that Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran, unlike Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Ayush Mhatre, are not discussed much despite their brilliance cast in the IPL, and their inevitable contributions behind PBKS's massive success.
"We don't speak enough about this guy. If you think about the season he had last time around, on the back of that he played for India A as well. Credit to the selectors; at least someone is watching.
"And even this year, I mean, the kind of run he has had and also very safe keeping. He might not be the best going around, but he is a very safe keeper. He is a good keeper, and we don't talk much about him as an opener or as a batter, but he has made a huge difference," said Deep Dasgupta.
Gautam Gambhir hints at PBKS opener's inclusion into the Indian T20I side, ignores Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
After Deep Dasgupta made the bold remark on ESPNcricinfo, the video went viral when Indian men's national head coach Gautam Gambhir liked the video that heaped immense praise on PBKS opener Prabhsimran Singh.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has scored several runs for the Rajasthan Royals. He has now leveled his runs tally with KL Rahul with 357 runs after 8 games and has scored a century alongside the two half-centuries in this edition of the competition.
While several greats have backed Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and asked for his inclusion into the Indian team to be fast-tracked. Now Gambhir's like, on ESPN's post, has made a massive thunder in the T20 cricket circle.
Prabhsimran Singh's dominance in the IPL
Prabhsimran Singh, the PBKS opener, has been part of the squad ever since they picked him as a youngster. His first complete season came back in IPL 2023 when he was just a 22-year-old youngster.
He went on to score 358 runs and 334 runs across the 14 games played in 2023 and 2024; however, his breakout season came back in IPL 2025. The PBKS opener was backed by Ricky Ponting, who retained him as an uncapped cricketer and backed him to open the innings.
Having scored 549 runs in 2025, he was Punjab's second-highest run-scorer behind skipper Shreyas Iyer. He has also helped the team chase massive totals in IPL 2026 while having amassed 287 runs from 7 matches.
