Former West Indies captain and legendary batter Brian Lara has revealed his current favorite batter and bowler across all international cricket teams. Brian Lara has named young Indian opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal as his current favorite batter, alongside former England skipper Joe Root.
Brian Lara holds two major batting records for over two decades. He set the record for the highest individual score in Tests with an unbeaten 400 against England in 2004. Lara scored an unbeaten 501 in a first-class match in 1994, which remains the highest individual score in the longer format of the game.
The Batter That I Like the Most, Would Be Yashasvi Jaiswal - Brian Lara
Brian Lara has named Yashasvi Jaiswal as his current favorite batter, alongside Joe Root. Lara acknowledged Root's record but expressed a preference for Jaiswal when asked about his favorite batter.
"Obviously, the record of Joe Root at present, and that's just going on record. But if you want to know the batter that I like the most, it would definitely be Jaiswal," Lara said.

Joe Root, Yashasvi Jaiswal Lead Batting Charts in Tests This Year
Yashasvi Jaiswal had a tough outing in the second Test of the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy. The left-handed batter recorded scores of 0 and 24 in both innings of the pink-ball Test. He started the BGT with a duck but followed it up with a match-winning 161-run knock in India's second innings in Perth.
However, his overall performance in Test cricket has been remarkable, amassing 1,592 runs in 16 Tests at an average of 54.89. This year, the 22-year-old has scored 1,304 runs in 13 matches at an average of 54.33, with seven fifties and three centuries. He is behind Joe Root, who has scored 1,470 runs in 16 Tests.
The Best in the World Right Now Is Jasprit Bumrah - Brian Lara
In the same interaction, Lara has praised Jasprit Bumrah as the best bowler in the world right now. The legendary Windies cricketer highlighted Bumrah's exceptional ability across all formats of the game, including T20, limited overs, and Test cricket.
"And the bowler that is definitely the best in the world right now is Jasprit Bumrah. I think he's awesome, and the way he operates in all versions of the game, T20, the limited-overs, test cricket, it's just tremendous to see the ability," Lara added.
Jasprit Bumrah has been India's best bowler in the first two Tests, taking 12 wickets in total. He was instrumental in India's 295-run victory in the opening Test in Perth, where he claimed eight wickets. Bumrah also took four wickets in the first innings of the Adelaide Test, but India ended up losing the match.
