It has taken Naveen-ul-Haq and Virat Kohli just one match to bury the hatchet. The India and Afghanistan stars were involved in an ugly altercation during a match in IPL 2023 earlier this year and the latter had refused to shake hands with the former at the end of the game.
Naveen-ul-Haq’s IPL captain KL Rahul tried to sort things out by inviting him to have a conversation with Virat Kohli but the pacer refused. The duo also targeted each other through indirect social media posts. And Naveen-ul-Haq had to face the heat from the fans too. He faced severe trolling on social media and was welcomed with chants of ‘Kohli, Kohli’ wherever he played.
And everyone was expecting something similar when they faced each other once again during the India vs Afghanistan match in the ongoing ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. It was their first meeting since the infamous altercation. But to everyone’s utter surprise, Naveen-ul-Haq and Virat Kohli hugged each other and buried the hatchet. The India batting superstar was also seen asking the crowd not to tease the Afghan pacer.
Naveen-ul-Haq reacts to the crowd’s chants:
Naveen-ul-Haq was in for a pleasant surprise when he stepped out on the field for the game between England and Afghanistan in Delhi on Sunday (October 15). After enduring a harrowing experience from the crowd in the aftermath of the confrontation with Kohli, the right-arm pacer was heartwarmingly greeted by the fans with chants of “Naveen bhai, Naveen bhai”.
A video of the same has gone viral on social media. What makes the video special is not only the chants but also the reaction from the bowler. Upon hearing the fans chanting his name, Naveen-ul-Haq turned around a bright smile gracing his face, and expressed his appreciation by giving a thumbs-up gesture.

Meanwhile, Naveen-ul-Haq played a key role in Afghanistan’s historic win over England in the ongoing World Cup. He picked up the huge wicket of England skipper Jos Buttler as Afghanistan went on to win the game by 69 runs.
