The young all-rounder Rachin Ravindra has been roped into the New Zealand ODI squad for the three-match series against Sri Lanka. Rachin Ravindra has been named as the replacement for Michael Bracewell, who was released from the squad after signing a contract with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023.

Following the Test series, the Blackcaps will host the three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka, with the first match scheduled to be played at Eden Park in Auckland on Saturday, March 25. The Tim Southee-led team registered a historic win by beating Sri Lanka by two wickets in the first Test of the two-match series at the Hagley Oval in Christchurch.

New Zealand head coach Gary Stead said Michael Bracewell getting a chance to represent RCB in the IPL would help him gain more experience in the conditions where the World Cup is scheduled to be played later this year.

“Michael’s been a key contributor to our white ball teams since making his debut last year. It’s exciting he’ll get a chance to take up the learning opportunities the IPL provides – particularly as a spin bowling all-rounder. With a World Cup in India this year it’s great to have players getting more experience in those conditions,” Gary Stead said.

Stead praised Ravindra’s performance with bat and ball this season and said that he would learn by spending time in the Black Caps environment. He said, “this will be another good chance for him to spend time in the BLACKCAPS environment.”

Rachin Ravindra represented New Zealand’s U19 team in the 2018 World Cup and was named the rising star of the squad by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The left-handed batter played three Tests and six T20Is for the Kiwi team. He made his Test debut in India in the first Test of New Zealand’s tour of India in 2021.
