Scotland all-rounder Michael Leask is optimistic about their chances to reach the Super 8 stage from Group B in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024. Michael Leask stated that the Scotland team is not surprised to see them top the Group B points table ahead of strong title contenders like Australia and England.

Scotland's T20 World Cup 2024 match against England at the Kensington Oval in Barbados on Tuesday, June 4 was washed out due to rain. Scotland scored 90 runs in 10 overs, with George Munsey (41) and Michael Jones (45) remaining unbeaten. The second innings couldn't take place due to persistent rain.

The Richie Berrington-led team secured a five-wicket victory over Namibia in Barbados on Thursday, June 7 (local time). Michael Leask was named the "Player of the Match" for his impressive performance with both bat and ball. Following the win, Scotland leapfrogged to the top of the five-team table with three points.

We've Got A Hell Of A Squad - Michael Leask

At the post-match press conference, Michael Leask acknowledged that Scotland has a well-balanced squad in the tournament. Leask expressed confidence in their ability to win their remaining matches and finish at the top of the group.

"Look, we've got a hell of a squad. It's no surprise to us. It might be a surprise to some. England will probably say it was a surprise to them the other day that we're 90 off 10 overs. It doesn't surprise me. This team's got great depth. We've played together for a number of years, a number of us. We've got some new fresh blood so it doesn't really surprise us that we're in this position. And yeah, we've got two more huge games and why can't we top the group at the end of it then?" said Leask.

Michael Leask picked up one wicket for 16 runs in his two overs as Namibia scored 155 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs. The right-handed batter scored a quickfire 35 runs off 17 balls, including four sixes. The European team chased down the target with five wickets and nine balls to spare.

We're On Top Of The Table With Two Teams To Go - Michael Leask

Michael Leask stated that Scotland could end up at the bottom of the group if they lose the next two games. The all-rounder said that there's still much cricket to be played and added that the upcoming match against Oman is significant for the team's journey in the tournament.

"Yeah, well we're on top of the table with two games to go. Those two games could put us bottom of the table. So, we've still got a lot of cricket to play, there's still 80 overs of cricket to play and there's still a lot of other teams to do a lot of other things as well. So, we can only do what we can control. We've got Oman on Sunday which is a huge fixture for us and then we go again," Leask added.

The Scotland team will take on Oman in their next match at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, in Antigua on Sunday, June 9. They will play their final group stage match against Australia at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in St. Lucia on June 15.
