Former England captain Eoin Morgan has finally opened up about the speculations of him taking over as England's new white-ball head coach.
Recently, British media reported that England's current white-ball head coach Matthew Mott will leave the post after England's unsuccessful defence of the T20 World Cup and Morgan is in line to take up the role.

In the T20 World Cup 2024, England finished second on the group stage. In the Super 8, they managed to pull off a victory over the hosts West Indies to make it to the semi-finals. But they could not stand a chance against a strong Indian team in the semi-final as they lost the match by 68 runs.

This was not the only unsuccessful campaign with Matthew Mott as head coach. Under Mott, England had a disappointing ODI World Cup 2023 campaign last year, where they entered as defending champions.

But Jos Buttler and his men failed to qualify for the semi-finals and finished seventh in the points table with 3 wins and 6 defeats. As a result, the pressure has started mounting on Matthew Mott and Jos Buttler.

Eoin Morgan opens up about taking up the role of England's head coach

When asked about taking up the role of England's new head coach during the Hundred's commentary stint, Morgan expressed his surprise at the news and denied the rumors.

"This news is actually news to me. It's obviously not nice when a coach comes under fire and there is a lot of speculation about his future, but only time will tell what will happen," Morgan stated.

However, the World Cup-winning captain expressed his desire to be the head coach sometime in the future. He suggested that he wants to spend most of the time with his family right now and will concentrate on his commentary stint currently.

"I've been asked a lot [in the media] over the past couple of months about the role, and if I would take it on. My answer has simply been that the timing for everything in my life at the moment is not right. Yes, I want to coach down the line. But I have a young family, and I spend a lot more time at home and watching cricket doing this (commentary). I'm loving what I'm doing," said Morgan.

Eoin Morgan's role in English cricket

Eoin Morgan is credited with changing England's fortunes in white-ball cricket with his inspired captaincy. The left-handed middle-order batter led England to their first-ever 50-over World Cup title in 2019.

After England's 2015 World Cup debacle where they failed to reach the quarter-finals, Morgan formed a new team and gave them the freedom to play aggressive cricket which resulted in England posting some record scores on the board.

England's managing director Rob Key has stated that the team's performance during the T20 World Cup 2024 will be reviewed in the coming weeks.

England's white-ball head coach Matthew Mott and captain Jos Buttler are under serious pressure and could be sacked from their roles. Buttler is suffering from a calf injury which forced him to miss the Hundred.
