The upcoming tour will be Australia’s first tour of Pakistan since Mark Taylor-led side visited in 1998. The Aussies have avoided travelling to Pakistan due to security reasons and the away matches were being held in United Arab Emirates (UAE).

In September last year, New Zealand cricketers travelled to Pakistan for the series. However, New Zealand Cricket opted to call off the tour citing security issues and the players returned home. England had also decided to call off their tour of Pakistan.

Also, with the Taliban gaining back control in neighbouring Afghanistan the frequency of attacks have increased and Pakistan’s Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid had said terrorist incidents had increased by more than a third since the United States withdrew from Afghanistan, local media reported.

In a bomb blast on Thursday in eastern Pakistan, three people were killed and over 20 were wounded.
