Veteran Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik made a bold remark about Babar Azam’s captaincy following a crushing seven-wicket loss to India in the World Cup 2023. Shoaib Malik stated that Babar Azam should step down from the captaincy role and continue as a player.

The Men in Green failed to make an impact with both bat and ball at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday, October 14. The team managed to score just 191 runs despite getting off to a good start. They lost their last eight wickets for just 36 runs.

“I gave an opinion in the past as well that Babar Azam should leave captaincy. This is my personal opinion. Babar does not think out of the box as a captain. He is doing captaincy but the improvement is not coming. He can do wonders for Pakistan as a player,” Shoaib Malik said.

The Babar Azam-led team started their world campaign with back-to-back victories in the first two games. The Pakistan team registered a convincing 81-run victory against the Netherlands. They chased down a target of 345 runs against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad.

You Cannot Do Anything – Shoaib Malik

Shoaib Malik pointed out that Kuldeep Yadav’s pace dropped in his last two overs when he picked wickets. Malik emphasized the importance of putting pressure on spinners to make them feel uneasy.

“Kuldeep Yadav bowled at an average speed of around 84 in his first eight overs. But when he picked wickets in his last two overs, his pace dropped to 82. There is only one way to play a spinner. Until and unless a spinner gets scared, you cannot do anything,” Malik added.

The Pakistan cricket team is in fourth place in the 10-team points table with four points to their tally. The team will take on the Pat Cummins-led Australia in their next match at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Friday, October 20.
