Australia star David Warner has said that he would have no problem sitting down with his critics and having a beer. One of Australia’s most decorated openers of all time, the left-handed batsman is gearing up for his last Test.

He will bring down the curtains on his illustrious Test career after the conclusion of the upcoming third and final Test against Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground. On Monday (January 1), he also announced his retirement from One-Day Internationals. He is currently Australia’s second-most prolific run-scorer in international cricket.

Only the legendary Ricky Ponting has scored more runs for Australia than David Warner in international cricket. The southpaw is also Australia’s highest run-scorer in Tests as an opener and has the second-most ODI centuries for his country. He was a key member of the Australian team that won the ODI World Cup in 2015 and 2023. In the 2015 World Cup, he was Australia’s second-highest run-scorer and was their highest run-scorer in this year’s World Cup.

David Warner on his critics:

Despite enjoying a stunning career in international cricket for more than a decade, David Warner has copped his fair share of criticism and hate. He has been criticized not only on social media but also by some of his former teammates as well as ex-Australia cricketers. Just before the ongoing Test series against Pakistan, he was targeted by his former teammate Mitchell Johnson.

Writing in his newspaper column, Johnson had questioned the batter’s place in Australia’s Test team and also said that he did not deserve the farewell due to his involvement in the ball-tampering scandal. David Warner decided against hitting back at Johnson but let his bat do the talking as he played a stunning knock of 164 runs in the first Test against Pakistan.

“There are two types of likes and dislikes. There are ones that hide behind the keyboard and there are ones in real life who have a sit down with you, have a beer and get to know you. They are the real people who actually support you,” David Warner was quoted as saying by Fox Sports.

“I’ve had a few of them, where I’ve called people out and had a beer with them and they’ve changed their opinion totally. That goes back probably four, five, six years ago.

“But what you see is what you get. I’m very honest, I’m open, always happy to have a beer with anyone that has a disagreement in the public. If you don’t like what you see on TV, reach out I’ll have a beer with you. That’s open to anyone,” he added.
