Pakistan captain Babar Azam gracefully accepted the DRS decision after a heartbreaking one-wicket defeat against South Africa in the ICC World Cup 2023. Babar Azam stated that it’s part of the game, but can potentially impact the outcome of cricket matches.
The Men in Green’s semi-final chances were dented following their fourth World Cup loss at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Friday, October 27. Pakistan is mathematically still in the tournament, but it will be impossible for them to make it into the top four.
It’s Just Part Of The Game – Babar Azam
Speaking at the post-match presentation, Babar Azam acknowledged that it’s a regular part of the game and that the decision could have favored his team had it gone in their favor.
“It’s part of the game. This is umpire’s call so I think it’s just part of the game. Had he given it out, it would have favored us,” Babar said.
Pakistan decided to review an LBW decision against Tabraiz Shamsi during the 46th over, but the DRS confirmed that it was the “Umpire’s call,” leading to Shamsi’s survival. This decision frustrated the Pakistan team, as they believed the decision could have favored them.
We Had The Opportunity To Win This Match – Babar Azam
Babar Azam admitted that they failed to take advantage of the opportunity to stay in the tournament. Azam stated that they fell short by 10-15 runs with the bat, blaming batters for their performances.
“I think it’s disappointing everyone, we had the opportunity to win this match and stay in the tournament but we missed it. We will try our best in our next three matches and put our effort so let’s see where we stand after the three matches.”
Pakistan set a target of 271 runs after opting to bat first. They seemed to be out of the game at one stage, but they made a comeback by taking wickets and putting pressure on South Africa. They failed to pick the final wickets to clinch the victory in Chennai.
