Babar Azam spoke with Sky Sports’ Nasser Hussain before Pakistan’s Test series against England on his climb to the top and how he copied the former South Africa star’s style of play.
The Test will be England’s first in Pakistan in 17 years, following a tour pause following a gunman attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in 2009.

The Three Lions and the Men in Green last faced off in a summit match for the T20 World Cup in 2022, with the latter winning on the biggest platform. Even before the main game, England defeated India 4-3 in a seven-match T20I series between the two heavyweights. Former England player Nasser Hussain got down with the Pakistan captain and grilled him on the team’s morning preparations.

“Yes, we are excited about the series.” First and foremost, I’d want to welcome the England team here (in Pakistan). I believe a few youngsters have already represented the side in the T20 squad, and there are a few new faces, so I believe they will have a great time.”

“Enjoy the weather and the hospitality in Pakistan. We are all excited about the series, and everyone wants to play terrific cricket!” said Babar in an interview with Nasser for SkySports.
“AB de Villiers is my idol”: Babar Azam
When asked about the cricketers he watched in his formative years and held in high regard, Babar mentioned South African legend AB de Villiers.

“To be honest, AB de Villiers is my role model.” I adore him, especially the way he executes his photos. So, when I see him batting on TV, I try to play similar shots in the nets and on the ground the next day. “I try my hardest to imitate and play like AB de Villiers because he is my idol,” Babar added.
The first test match between Pakistan and the Three Lions will take place on December 1 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi. The Men in Green will attempt to bounce back from recent losses to the same team and win the series at home.
