The first Test match between England and Pakistan will begin as scheduled on Thursday following the emergence of a viral virus in the Three Lions’ camp, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) stated on Thursday.

Both boards have agreed that the match would not be postponed. In Rawalpindi for the first Test against Pakistan, England stated that they are prepared to field a starting XI.

“The ECB has informed the PCB that they are in a position to field an XI, and, as such, the first Test will commence as per schedule today (Thursday, 1 December) at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium,” ECB said in a tweet.

England’s team was in turmoil on the eve of their first Test in Pakistan when 13 to 14 staff members, including half of the 16-man playing squad, fell unwell on Wednesday.

Because of a chef named Omar Meziane who has traveled with the squad on this tour, England is taking additional precautions with their meals as the issue is thought to be a virus or insect rather than food poisoning. On Tuesday, after reporting feeling unwell, some players were told to stay in their rooms to lessen the chance of the virus spreading.

The Rawalpindi Test will be England’s first in Pakistan in 17 years:

A representative for the ECB confirmed to Espncricinfo that the infections were unrelated to COVID-19. The illness might go in a day, but since the first of the three games in the series begins on Thursday in Rawalpindi, England’s prospects of winning have been greatly reduced.

At the venue on Wednesday, which was optional before the disease spread, only Root, Zak Crawley, Ollie Pope, Harry Brook, and Keaton Jennings showed up. There were no other players mentioned in the starting XI.

The outbreak has taken place at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad, where both teams England and Pakistan have been staying.

The Rawalpindi Test will be England’s first in Pakistan in 17 years, following a tour cancellation due to security concerns. The second and third Tests will be held in Multan (December 9-13) and Karachi, respectively.
