Danish Kaneria thinks that Hasan Ali’s selection in the starting lineup for Pakistan’s current second Test match against New Zealand was only motivated by his connection with captain Babar Azam.

As stated by the former spinner, Ali did not deserve to be a member of the squad for the match. Kaneria alleged that the Pakistani team management unfairly benched pacer Mohammad Wasim Jr. in order to make room for Babar’s teammate in the starting lineup.

Danish Kaneria said on Monday, January 2, on his YouTube channel: “Hasan Ali didn’t deserve to be in the starting lineup. Mohammad Wasim Jr. was released without cause. Hasan Ali was chosen solely because Babar Azam counts him as a close friend. Furthermore, they did not include an additional spinner. Who are the persons who give them permission to make such decisions?”

Ali took Wasim Jr’s spot for the second and final Test of Pakistan’s home series against New Zealand, although he struggled on Day 1. On the first day of the vital match, the right-arm fast bowler was unable to secure even a single wicket.

“We have the wrong mindset”: Danish Kaneria

Danish Kaneria continued by saying that Pakistan was not ready to play the second Test against New Zealand at the National Stadium in Karachi on a turning track. He said the domestic team was reluctant to prepare a rank turner because they were afraid of the Kiwi spinners.

Danish Kaneria underlined that even when playing at home, Pakistani hitters frequently struggle against all types of bowlers.

“Pakistan was too afraid to construct a turning track since New Zealand had three spinners. Our batters are said to be excellent spin players. However, the truth is that we do not play any bowlers well. In truth, we’re not very good at cricket. We have the wrong frame of mind.”

After losing to England 3-0 at home in a Test series, the Babar Azam-led team was criticized from all sides. Through victory in the second Test against New Zealand, they want to turn things around. Notably, the first game in the series between the two countries resulted in a draw.
