Kane Williamson, who was playing his maiden Test match after giving away the captaincy, guided New Zealand to come out on top during this innings by scoring a remarkable double-century.

Kane Williamson finished his 25th Test century on Wednesday. After that, he kept up his fantastic hammering of the opponent bowlers and he recorded a double century today. Williamson needed 395 balls to reach the milestone. He played a 200-run inning with 21 fours and 1 six. In Test cricket, this was Kane Williamson’s fifth double-hundred.

Kane Williamson Scores His Fifth Double Hundred For New Zealand

Williamson surpassed Brendon McCullum’s record for the most double-hundreds by a New Zealander with his sixth double-hundred in Test cricket. More significantly, Williamson himself required it as he had resigned as Test captain due to his dismal performance.

The former captain of New Zealand hit his previous double-century against Pakistan in January 2021. His four double centuries up until this point have all come in New Zealand. He has never previously amassed a double hundred away from home.

Kane Williamson’s Knock Puts New Zealand In Driver’s Seat

Williamson produced a 159-run partnership with Ish Sodhi on the fourth day, helping them build a 174-run advantage before Tim Southee made his declaration. On a field with just a modest turn and some tough spots of the stumps, Sodhi and Williamson seemed most at ease.

For more than half a day, Williamson and Sodhi played, which was irritating for Pakistan. Despite only adding 79 runs in the first session, the two created the atmosphere that enabled New Zealand to gradually gain ground and build a comfortable lead.
