The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is likely to stick with its decision to give more opportunities to young cricketers in the upcoming home series against New Zealand despite the series’ loss against Afghanistan in the UAE. According to reports, only a few changes are expected for the T20I matches, and the senior players will be available for the ODIs.

The white-ball series, consisting of five T20I and five ODIs matches will begin on April 14, with the first T20I scheduled to be played in Lahore. New Zealand will play three T20Is in Lahore before traveling to Rawalpindi for the final two T20Is and the first ODI. The tour will end on May 7, with the remaining four One-Day Internationals to be played in Karachi.

Pakistan team management didn’t want to experiment in the ODI and will field their best possible XI, with the 2023 World Cup scheduled to play later this year. Usama Mir, Haseebullah, and Abrar Ahmed are in contention to be picked in the squad for the shorter format.

The final decision on team selection will be taken by the team management after consultation with the team captain. Babar Azam is reportedly led Pakistan in both formats against New Zealand.

A training camp for both the T20I and ODI squads is expected to be held at the National Cricket Academy on April 7 or 8. While the selected players depart for the T20I series, the remaining players will continue training for the ODI matches.
