PAK vs NZ: Pakistan Set To Hire Morne Morkel As Bowling Coach, Mickey Arthur Serving As A Consultant- Reports

Former South Africa internationals Morne Morkel and Andrew Puttick are expected to be hired by the PCB to serve as the bowling and batting coaches for the Pakistan men’s side, respectively. Also, the board approved Mickey Arthur’s hiring as a consultant in addition to his continued employment as Derbyshire’s head coach.

The PCB is expecting that the team’s performance in the next ICC World Test Championship and other international competitions would improve thanks to the new coaching staff. The team’s overall performance in the longer game format is another area where the board wants to see improvement. It will be required of the new coaching staff to provide the team with innovative concepts and tactics.

The coaching group is set up so that Arthur can function remotely as the team director. He was also given the task of assembling the coaching panel, which is made up of everyone who works abroad. Grant Bradburn, a former fielding coach for Pakistan, will serve as the head coach, and Cliffe Deacon and Drikus Saaiman will keep their positions as physiotherapist and strength and conditioning coach, respectively.

Bradburn, a former all-rounder for New Zealand, served in the Pakistani system for more than three years before leaving in 2021. Prior to taking on the new position at the HPC, he previously served as the fielding coach for the men’s national team since September 2018. He left his position 18 months before his contract expired in May 2020, during Ramiz Raja’s time as board chairman of the National Academy.

Morne Morkel will formally join the side after his IPL:

Morne Morkel will officially join the team following his IPL engagement as bowling coach with the Lucknow Super Giants. He formerly worked as a coach for Namibia at the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia, and Morne Morkel is currently the bowling coach for Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20 League. He also played for the New Zealand women’s squad at the T20 World Cup in South Africa.

Morne Morkel will offer extensive experience to the Pakistani team. He has appeared in over 100 Tests and 150 One-Day Internationals for South Africa, as well as the IPL and Big Bash League. He has also worked as a member of the South African national team’s coaching staff, with players such as AB de Villiers, Dale Steyn, and Hashim Amla.
