On Day 1 of Pakistan’s ongoing first Test match against New Zealand in Karachi, Sarfaraz Ahmed showed signs of improvement. The catastrophic collapse of Pakistan’s top order brought back memories of their 0-3 thrashing by England. The previous skipper saved his team when the hosts were down batting 110 for four after 28.4 overs, assisting current captain Babar Azam in leading Pakistan to 317 on Day 1 at Stumps.

Sarfaraz was fired as Pakistan’s captain in October 2019, ahead of the team’s tour to Australia, due to Pakistan’s dismal run of form. Azhar Ali and Babar Azam have been chosen captains of the Test and Twenty20 squads, respectively.

Under his leadership, Pakistan won 29 of 37 matches and climbed to the top of the T20I rankings. Pakistan played 50 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) under his leadership, winning 28 and losing 20, for a winning percentage of 58.33.
