Pakistan Cricket Team against all odds made it to the finals of T20 WC 2022 and their first one after 2009. The Men in Green though didn’t have a convincing home season where they lost Test Series against England and weren’t able to capitalize on a 1-0 lead in the New Zealand ODI Series.
Skipper Babar Azam stood tall across all the 3 formats as the right-handed batter scored 2,598 runs in 44 matches with an average of 54.12. The batter struck 8 centuries and 15 half-centuries in the calendar year 2022 but didn’t get any significant support from the rest of the batters.

Babar Azam Dazzles
Babar Azam was on fire against Aussies in the 2nd Test match where he struck 196 runs in 425 balls and eked out a draw. He had scored the highest runs by a Test Captain in the fourth innings of the Test Match. The 28 year old batter showed immense mental application as the conditions were not that easy for the batters.

Concerns for Pakistan
Following the home season, WTC & 2022 T20 WC; there are chances that Babar Azam would be sacked from the captaincy. At the same time there might me a change in the coaching setup. According to some reports Pakistan is going to apply split coaching & split captaincy for better results in the ICC tournaments as Pakistan hasn’t won an ICC tourney since 2017 Champions Trophy.
Pakistan’s next assignment is against Afghanistan in March for a 3 T20I match series. The veteran wicket-keeper batter Sarfaraz Ahmed would be handed Test captaincy after his stellar run against New Zealand in the 2 Test Match Series where he scored 335 runs where he scored 3 half centuries and 1 century. The board would be worried with his wicket-keeping skills as he dropped quite a few catches which hurt the team.
