Massive claims against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The Major League Cricket (MLC) franchises have alleged that PCB is charging hefty fees to issue the No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for their players.

As per reports, the officials of MLC brought the matter to the attention of PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi to resolve it, as a national cricket board asking for money to issue NOCs does not sound natural.

Pakistan Cricket Board defends $25,000 NOC fee as MLC franchises raise concerns

The matter took another surprising turn when MLC tried to draw Mohsin Naqvi’s attention in search of justice. It is reported that as the officials of the franchise league raised the matter to the Pakistan cricket governing body, the PCB replied that asking for money for NOCs was their right and it was a source of their revenue.

According to a PakPassion report, PCB is alleged to have asked the MLC franchises for a $25,000 fee to issue NOCs for players.

Major League Cricket franchises vow to never sign a Pakistan cricketer again

The MLC franchises have claimed that PCB's demand for money arrived only a few days ahead of the beginning of the tournament. As every franchises have their own budget for each session, the claim made by PCB put them on the back foot.

Because of the unusual demand from the national cricket board, franchises of the American T20 league have vowed to never sign a Pakistan cricket player in the future. If the situation remains the same, them their will be no player from the nation representing any of the MLC teams in the near future.

An MLC source told the media house that PCB came with the demand at the last minute, a week before the season opener: $25,000 for each player's NOC.

"It's more the extortion the PCB does. Basically, through the year, they won't say anything. And then right towards the start of the tournament, when they have to give their NOCs, they send an email saying that for the NOC, it will be $25,000 for each player," the source close to an MLC franchise owner informed.

"Around a week before the tournament starts, when they know we can't find other players, we've announced the players and cannot replace them, that's when they'll come back and say you have to pay $25,000 per player for an NOC. We'll ask them why they did not tell us this before, and they won’t respond," the source added.

There was an event when the Pakistan Cricket Board demanded money only a few hours before a match. That incident took place in the second season of the tournament.

"There were four Pakistani players for one of the teams, but the PCB forgot about the fourth player and asked for three payments of $25,000. They then extorted another $25,000 for the fourth player for an NOC just a few hours before a match was to be played," as per the claims.

PCB denied to co-operate with the Major League Cricket franchise owners

It is further mentioned that the franchise owners raised the issue directly to the PCB head Mohsin Naqvi. Instead of resolving the matter, the board told the franchise owners that it was one of their revenue sources despite not having any formal documentation or previous communication.

"It would be a different issue if it's a standard policy and they publish that ahead of time for everyone. But when they do this just for MLC, in a way to extort money, that's not the right thing to do," the source continued.
