Pakistan takes on Ireland in match 36 of the T20 World Cup 2024 on Sunday, June 16. The match starts at 8 pm IST which is 10.30 am local time. Ireland's abandoned game against the USA has eliminated Pakistan, Ireland, and Canada from the tournament. India and USA have qualified for Super 8s from Group A.
There is a serious threat of rain that might play spoilsport in this contest. Thunderstorms are expected. The first match at this venue between Sri Lanka and Nepal ended in a washout. In the process, Sri Lanka were eliminated from the tournament.
Pakistan too faces a similar situation. A washout in Florida will see them stand eliminated from the tournament. They lost to the USA and India and won their previous match against Canada.
Pakistan cricket team has played below-par cricket in this tournament. They were very much outplayed in the match against India and USA and against Canada they won the game in the 18th over chasing just 107.
Pakistan's bench strength has the likes of Iftikhar Ahmed, Abrar Ahmed, Azam Khan, Abbas Afridi Iftikhar Ahmed and Azam Khan not performing in the matches that they played. It will be interesting to see if they make any changes to their XI.
Pakistan Playing 11 vs Ireland- ICC T20 World Cup 2024, Match 36
Babar Azam (C)
The skipper has batted poorly in this World Cup so far scoring 90 runs at an average of 30. His captaincy has been well below par as well.
Mohammad Rizwan (WK)
Rizwan will open the batting along with Babar. He has been the batting mainstay for Pakistan in this tournament so far. He is inching close to 100 runs in the tournament.
Fakhar Zaman
Zaman should ideally bat at three being the left-hander. He is an aggressive payer and naturally dominates the bowling attack. He has batted up and down the order.
Saim Ayub
The youngster scored just six opening the battle against Canada and did not take the opportunity. He is better off battling in the middle order and with the older ball.
Usman Khan
Usman Khan can slot in at five. He is a find of the PSL but has not proven his potential with the bat so far for the national side.
Shadab Khan
Shadab Khan will slot in at six. He is playing as an all-rounder but has been hardly used with the ball. He also has been very ineffective with the ball as well.
Imad Wasim
Imad will slot in at seven. He came out of his retirement to play the World Cup for Pakistan but so far the move has backfired. He received heavy criticism for his knock against India.
Shaheen Afridi
Afridi will slot in at eight. He has decent skills with the bat but is more required of Pakistan with the ball. He has been expensive in this World Cup going for almost 10 runs per over.
Naseem Shah
Naseem has been the pick of the bowlers for Pakistan. He does not have too many wickets to show for his efforts but has been the most economical bowler for his side. He has not been backed up by the rest of the bowlers.
Mohammad Amir
Amir will be the third pacer in this XI. His comeback also has not been as expected. He bowled an expensive Super Over against USA and was very good with the ball against Canada picking up two for 14.
Haris Rauf
Rauf concludes the likely XI for Pakistan for their match against Ireland. With six wickets from three games, he has been the highest wicket-taker for Pakistan in this campaign so far.
