The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has on Monday, August 25, announced a bold and refreshing squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, which is set to run from September 30 to November 2 in India and Sri Lanka. They stunned the cricket world by selecting seven players who are set to play their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup.

The biggest talking point is the selection of 20-year-old Eyman Fatima, who is yet to make her ODI debut. Eyman Fatima was named in the squad on the back of her stunning performances in Pakistan’s domestic T20 circuit and T20I series against Ireland earlier this month.

Apart from Fatima, Natalia Parvaiz, Rameen Shamim, Sadaf Shamas, Sadia Iqbal, Shawaal Zulfiqar, and Syeda Aroob Shah are the rest of the six players who have been handed maiden ODI World Cup call-ups. Their inclusion was one of the boldest overhauls in Pakistan’s recent cricket history.

Star all-rounder Fatima Sana is all set to captain the 15-member squad, while the wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali will serve as the vice-captain in the upcoming ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. Meanwhile, Diana Baig, Aliya Riaz, Sidra Amin, and Omaima Sohail add balance and experience to the young side for the mega event next month.

Additionally, Pakistan has included five travelling reserves—Gull Feroza, Najiha Alvi, Tuba Hassan, Umm-e-Hani, and Waheeda Akhtar—for the tournament. Interestingly, Feroza and Alvi, who were part of the ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier earlier this year, have now been named in the standby list.

PCB to conduct a training camp ahead of the ODI World Cup

The PCB said in an official media release: “The 15 players alongside five reserve players will take part in a 14-day pre-South Africa series camp from Friday, 29 August. The players under the coaching staff led by Muhammad Wasim will undergo practice sessions as well as 50-over practice matches. More details regarding the camp will be announced in due course. South Africa’s women’s cricket team will arrive in Lahore on 12 September.”

Before leaving for Sri Lanka, Pakistan is all set to face South Africa in a three-match ODI series in Lahore from September 16 to September 22. And the same squad announced for the mega event will take on the Proteas side in the upcoming ODI series.
