The ICC World Test Championship final 2025 is approaching closely, and the Australian team’s batting order isn’t confirmed yet, but finally, Australia skipper Pat Cummins confirmed the ace batter Steve Smith’s batting position for the WTC final against South Africa.

In which position will Steve Smith bat?
Pat Cummins confirmed that Steve Smith will bat at his favourite number four position in the WTC 2025 final against South Africa at Lord’s. Cummins confirmed the Smith’s batting position in a conversation with The Grade Cricketer on Prime Video Australia.
“I can confirm that Smudge will be batting at four. Everyone else, I’m not willing to, but I can confirm Steve Smith will be number four.” Pat Cummins stated.
Smith played a vital role in Australia’s triumph in the previous WTC 2024 final against India as he scored a ton in the first innings and set the tone for his team.
It will be a hard challenge for Cummins to defend the title, and no team has yet to defend the WTC title. Australia defeated India in the Border-Gavaskar trophy to confirm their spot in the final, and also eliminated the previous year’s runner-up from the final.
Steve Smith’s record at number 4
Steve Smith batted most of the time at number four in his Test career and has a splendid record in batting at four. Smith scored 6531 runs in 74 Test matches, batting at the number four slot with an average of 61.61.
Smith has smashed 23 centuries and 26 half-centuries at number four in red-ball format. Smith brings his best to the number four slot, and to defend the WTC title, Aussies have to play their best game against the Proteas.
Aussies eyeing to defend WTC title successfully
The Aussies skipper Cummins has led Australia to win their maiden WTC title in the previous edition and is now on the verge on to defend the title as well. Cummins highlighted their performances in the WTC 2023-25 cycle as they went to Sri Lanka and won the series in really tough spin conditions.
Aussies went to New Zealand and beat them at their home, which makes their side a complete team. Australia missed out in the first edition of the WTC final, but after that, they made it into two consecutive finals, and if they win the WTC final again, then it will be a historic moment in Australian cricket.
Cummins also heaped praise on the Proteas side as they have multiple match-winners in their playing XI, and pointed out the experience of Kagiso Rabada, Temba Bavuma and Keshav Maharaj.
