Paul Collingwood Is One We Should Have An Eye On For The Full-Time Head Coach Role - Andrew Strauss
ECB’s interim director Andrew Strauss has revealed that the board is keeping interim head coach, Paul Collingwood, in mind to take up the full-time job. Chris Silverwood resigned this week after the Ashes debacle and Collingwood was appointed as the interim head coach for the West Indies Test series.
The disastrous Ashes series saw a few changes in the managerial department. Silverwood resigned while ECB director, Ashley Giles also quit the position. While there are a few options on their mind, Collingwood leads the race.
“For that tour of the West Indies, it’s a five-week tour, it feels like there’s a distinct advantage of having someone who has been part of that set-up already, with an established relationship with players and other support staff.”
“Paul obviously deputised for Chris Silverwood out in the West Indies with the T20 team and had done a very good job out there by all accounts. He is definitely one we should have an eye on moving forward for a head coach role,” Strauss told.
“He’s the right sort of character to do that” – Andrew Strauss
Describing Collingwood as a person with ‘bundles of energy’, Strauss said that the former all-rounder has the right mentality for the job and has a plan for England’s future in Test cricket.
They have already made a huge change in the squad for the West Indies series by dropping both James Anderson and Stuart Broad.
