Australia coaching staff member Sridharan Sriram opened up about Matthew Wade’s scoop shots, which led Australia to victory in the crucial semi-final game against Pakistan in ICC T20 World Cup 2021. Sridharan Sriram said that the scoop shot is one of Matthew Wade’s strengths.

Matthew Wade slammed three sixes off Pakistan pacer Shaheen Afridi’s over during Australia vs Pakistan semi-final clash in the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2021.

Out of three sixes, Wade also played two scoop shots towards the wicketkeeper’s end, both of which reached over the boundary. With 18 runs needed off 9 balls at that moment, the Aussie wicketkeeper’s hat-trick of sixes pushed Australia to the final of ICC T20 World Cup 2021.

Matthew Wade Has Always Played That Shot: Sridharan Sriram

In an exclusive interview to cricketnext.com, Sridharan Sriram was asked whether he worked with Matthew Wade over those scoop shots. In response, Sriram said that Wade has always played these shots, and there are some of his strengths.

“He has always played that shot. That is one of his strengths. He is someone who likes to use the pace. Being short, his centre of gravity is low, getting down is easy for him.

“He practices that shot a lot. It was not something out of the blue that he has done. We were actually telling him that he should be playing that shot more often,” Sridharan Sriram said.

Matthew Wade’s astonishing batting was unarguably the most thrilling moment during the tournament. Later, Australia also defeated New Zealand in the final by 8 wickets and won their first-ever T20 World Cup title.
