"Politics has begun" - Fans worried about Hardik Pandya as BCCI names Shubman Gill as new white-ball vice-captain

Fans on Twitter reacted after Shubman Gill was appointed as the vice-captain of the India National Cricket Team for the upcoming tour to Sri Lanka. The Men in Blue will be playing three T20Is and three ODIs on their tour.

Shubman Gill, who was given the responsibility to lead the team in the recently concluded Zimbabwe tour, has been assigned an additional role in the upcoming tour to Sri Lanka. He will be the vice-captain of the team in both formats.

Shubman Gill did a decent job as captain of the team in the Zimbabwe T20I series. The opening batter led from the front in the series and under his leadership, the team won the series by the margin of 4-1 and he ended up as the leading run-getter in the series with 170 runs to his name.

Shubman Gill in the last few months has been given the responsibility of the team. He was appointed as the leader of the Gujarat Titans and it seems that he impressed selectors with his leadership and then has been offered the role in the Team India.

Shubman Gill being preferred over Hardik Pandya and KL Rahul in the vice-captaincy role in ODIs comes as a big surprise. There were reports that if Rohit Sharma won’t be there, the keeper-batter will be leading the team but the rumours have now been quashed with the squad announcement.

In the T20Is, Shubman Gill will be serving as deputy to Suryakumar Yadav, who has been appointed as the captain of the team. He has been preferred over Hardik Pandya in the role and seems to be the choice for the next T20 World Cup with Gill being his deputy.
