For instance, the last three editions of the tournament were won by the hosts. However, India has many hurdles in their journey to lift ODI World Cup 2023 trophy. Here we discuss 5 reasons why India will not win the ICC World Cup 2023.

Poor Coaching Staff, Immense Pressure On Players To Win ICC Trophy: Here Are The Reasons Why India Will Not Win ICC World Cup 2023
5. Weak Spin Attack
India lacks a powerful spin bowler in ODIs. Kuldeep Yadav has returned to the India team this year and has shown marvellous form too. However, he was out of the team for many games during the last few years.
Yuzvendra Chahal is a superb spinner in limited-overs format but he has not managed to perform well in ODIs this year. All-rounders like Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel generate most of India’s spin attacks in ODIs. However, they cannot be trusted against powerful teams like Australia, New Zealand, and England.
Some emerging spinners like Ravi Bishnoi and Washington Sundar were allowed to play only a few games since 2022 and were ousted from the team without enough opportunities.
India lacks a lethal spinner like Rashid Khan, Adam Zampa, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, or Akeal Hosein. Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are two key spinners for the Indian team in ODIs. However, both of them do not even feature in the top 20 top bowlers in the ICC ODI rankings.

4. Lack Of Powerful Wicketkeeper Batsman
As soon as Rishabh Pant suffered an accident in December last year, a strong wicketkeeper option became a major woe for the Indian team. Ishan Kishan was given some opportunities in the ODI format, however, the left-handed batter scored just 33 runs in 4 ODI games this year.
KL Rahul emerged as a promising wicketkeeper for India in ODIs but he also faced a thigh injury during IPL 2023. Sanju Samson, who missed a lot of games this year, is back in the forthcoming IND vs WI ODI series. However, Samson’s record since his debut gives a glimpse of his inconsistency in the national team.
Even if Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul return to the team after injury, there is no guarantee that they will carry the form they possessed before getting injured. Hence, India lacks a powerful wicketkeeper-batsman for ICC World Cup 2023.
3. Key Players Missing Many Games Due To Injury
Since the start of 2023, Team India has been severely hit by injuries of many players. Pacer Jasprit Bumrah has not played any games since last year. He underwent back surgery earlier this year.
Shreyas Iyer, who is a key middle-order batsman for India, has been injured post-IND vs AUS Test series. He also underwent back surgery a few months ago. KL Rahul, who is also a crucial middle-order batter for India in ODIs, underwent thigh surgery last month.
Rishabh Pant, who faced a road accident in December 2022, is in the recovery process. Hence, these prominent players have been out of the field for a long time and they might need time to get back to form. However, there is not much time left for ICC World Cup 2023 which begins after 3 months.
2. India’s Poor ODI Record Under Coach Rahul Dravid
Rahul Dravid became India’s head coach in November 2021, after India faced a humiliating exit in T20 World Cup 2022. Although Rahul Dravid managed to get some initial success under his guidance, India’s performance in the last few years has been miserable.
For instance, India faced a 3-0 whitewash in an ODI series against South Africa in January 2022. Later, the men-in-blue lost an ODI series to New Zealand in November 2022. Later, India also faced an ODI series defeat to Bangladesh 2-1.
Even against Australia in March 2023, India lost the ODI series 2-1. Hence, India has struggled to win many bilateral series under coach Rahul Dravid. Hence, winning the ICC World Cup 2023 will be a big challenge for India.
1. Pressure Among Players For Winning ICC Trophy
ICC titles for India have become a once-in-a-blue-moon event. India last won the ICC title in 2013, when they won the Champions Trophy under skipper MS Dhoni. Post that, India reached the semi-finals and finals of many ICC tournaments but never won the final.
The men-in-blue lost Champions Trophy 2017 final, ODI World Cup 2019 semi-final, T20 World Cup 2014 final, T20 World Cup 2016 final, T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final, ICC WTC final 2021, and ICC WTC final 2023.
India has always choked on knockout games in ICC tournaments. The talks about India’s weakness in ICC tournaments are widespread among Indian fans. Even players know this fact and they have pressure to win an ICC tournament as soon as possible. This pressure might put players on backfoot when they play important games in ICC World Cup 2023.
