Prithvi Shaw slammed a marvelous knock of 244 runs in England One-Day Cup 2023 to script history on English soil. Post his double century for Northamptonshire, Prithvi Shaw said he is not thinking about India’s comeback and just want to enjoy his team in the tournament.
Prithvi Shaw shattered 244 runs off 173 balls in his 3rd match for Northamptonshire against Somerset on Wednesday. The right-handed batsman smacked 22 fours and 11 sixes during his impeccable knock to lead his team to victory by 87 runs later.
Not Really Thinking What Indian Selectors May Be Thinking: Prithvi Shaw
During the post-match presentation, Prithvi Shaw was asked whether he hopes for a comeback in the Indian team after his marvelous knock in England’s domestic tournament. Shaw replied that he is not thinking about India’s selection and just want to have a good time in the tournament.
“Definitely experience for sure. Not really thinking what the Indian selectors may be thinking, but I just want to have a good time here, have a good time with the players over here and the support staff. Northamptonshire have given me this opportunity… they’re really looking after me. I’m really enjoying it,” the 23-year-old player said.
Shaw last played for India in July 2021, during the ODI and T20I series against Sri Lanka. The Indian opener was picked in the T20I squad against New Zealand in February this year. However, he did not play any games during the three-match series. Shubman Gill and Ishan Kishan opened for the team in all three games.
227 Was In Mind While Batting: Prithvi Shaw
Prithvi Shaw shattered his top knock in List A cricket with his 244 runs. His earlier highest score was 227 in Vijay Hazare Trophy. Shaw revealed his 227 record wandered in his mind when he reached a double century in the match.
“The 227 was in my head to be honest. I spoke to Whitey [Whiteman] when he was there and I told him it’s 227, my highest score. But it was a good team effort all around.
I always try and win matches for the team and I’m the kind of a player who puts my team first and then myself. If scoring like this can help my team to win, then I should continue this,” the Mumbai-born cricketer further added.
