Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer will miss his stint with Lancashire this summer. Shreyas Iyer joined the county side in March this year for the Royal London One-day Cup and was to go link up with them in July. But a shoulder injury, for which he underwent surgery recently, will force him to miss the campaign.

Shreyas Iyer sustained a shoulder injury during the ODI series against England at home earlier this year while putting a dive. It ruled him out of that rubber and the subsequent edition of IPL as Rishabh Pant replaced him as the skipper of the Delhi Capitals. Nevertheless, he is in recovery after going through a surgical procedure. He could mark his return to professional cricket by playing for the Capitals in the second half of IPL 2021.

The 26-year old would have been a handy edition for Lancashire as he has a promising One-day international record. Iyer averages a healthy 42.78 from 22 ODIs, scoring 813 runs. He has scored a hundred and eight fifties in the process. His List A numbers are encouraging as well, averaging 44.67 in 104 fixtures, scoring 3976 runs.

I hope to play at Emirates Old Trafford for Lancashire at some point in the future: Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer feels disappointed not to be playing for Lancashire this summer and hope to feature for them sometime in the near future.

“I am gutted to not be able to play for Lancashire this summer, a Club that has such history and ambition. I hope to play at Emirates Old Trafford for Lancashire at some point in the future,” Iyer said as quoted by Lancashire cricket.co.uk.

Lancashire’s director of cricket, Paul Allot, felt equally gutted as he looked forward to welcoming Shreyas Iyer at the Old Trafford. However, they prioritized the Indian batsman’s recovery, respected his decision and fitness and hopes to host him in the immediate future.

“We are obviously very disappointed, as we were thoroughly looking forward to welcoming Shreyas to Emirates Old Trafford. Ultimately Shreyas’ long-term fitness is of paramount importance and Lancashire Cricket fully respects the decision. We wish Shreyas all the best with the remainder of his recovery, and from the conversations which I have had with the player, believe that this is an arrangement he would be keen to revisit again in the future,” Alcott remarked.
