Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced their squad for their upcoming second match of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. Opening batter Prithvi Shaw hasn't been named in the team for the upcoming game against Tripura.

Mumbai Cricket Association has made quite a few changes to the team. Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tanush Kotian won't be part of the team for the next round of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25. In their place, Akhil Herwadkar and Karsh Kothari have been recalled to the squad.

As per the reports in Sportstar, it is learned that Shaw has been given a break, while Suryakumar Yadav will be missing the game due to personal commitments. On the other hand, Tanush Kotian will be part of the India A team for the Australia tour and, hence, will be missing the game.

Talking about the omission of Shaw, Abhay Hadap, the Mumbai Cricket Association secretary said: "He has been given a break. The selectors and the coach have discussed with him and have briefed him about areas to work on, including fitness."

Releasing the official squad for the second round, MCA stated: "The Senior Selection Committee of Mumbai Cricket Association consisting of Mr Sanjay Patil (Chairman), Mr Ravi Thaker, Mr Jeetendra Thackeray, Mr Kiran Powar and Mr Vikrant Yeligeti has selected the following players to represent Mumbai in Ranji Trophy match against Tripura to be played from 26th to 29th October 2024 at MBB Stadium, Agartala."

Prithvi Shaw not getting picked for the game against Tripura did not go well with the batter. A few hours before the official squad announcement, he came up with a cryptic post on the Instagram account and wrote "Need a break thanks"

Prithvi Shaw hasn't been at his best for Mumbai in the ongoing domestic season. He had piled up 139 runs in six innings. His best was seen in the Irani Cup, where he scored 76 in the second innings.

In the ongoing Ranji Trophy, he scored 7 & 12 in Mumbai's stunning 84-run defeat in the Ranji Trophy to Baroda in Vadodara, and 1 & 39 not out in Mumbai's nine-wicket win over Maharashtra in their second Ranji Trophy match at the MCA ground in BKC.

Prithvi Shaw has been under a lot of scanner for his fitness. Ever since he returned from the knee injury at the start of the year, he hasn't been able to match his fitness level. It remains to be seen if he returns to the team for the next round or not.
