Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav are all but confirmed to be added to India‘s Test squad to face England. Multiple reports have confirmed the news, but no word officially from the BCCI has been announced yet in the same regard.

Even before the Test series with the hosts, which starts on August 4th at Trent Bridge, India have been hit by injuries. Three youngsters in Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar, and Avesh Khan have sustained injuries and are ruled out from the entire Test series. In fact, Gill has returned home.

Gill suffered a leg injury after the WTC final, while Avesh and Sundar sustained finger injuries while playing the three-day warm-up game earlier this week.

Reports earlier in the day suggested that the trio of Prithvi Shaw, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jayant Yadav would be sent to England to replace the injured trio. However, now in the latest developments, it has been learned that Jayant Yadav will not be flown, and the duo of Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav will be added to the Test squad.

Both Prithvi Shaw and Suryakumar Yadav are currently in Sri Lanka preparing for the T20I series starting Sunday, after beating the hosts in the ODI series. While it is yet to be confirmed when will the two be placed on the plane to the UK, they are likely to avoid any hard quarantine as they will be transferred from bubble to bubble.

Unlike Jayant Yadav, who is India, and would have been needed to spent a hard quarantine if he was to be flown to England.

“Yes, Prithvi and Surya are flying to UK from Sri Lanka. Jayant was also supposed to go but there has been some change in plans due to quarantine requirements. Jayant is now not going.

“Both players will have a bubble to bubble transfer from Colombo to London. Whether they will fly in the middle of the T20 Internationals (Shaw and and Suryakumar are part of team in Sri Lanka) or post that is being worked out,” the senior official told PTI.

“But yes, they are our replacement players for Test series in England. They might just leave after the three T20 Internationals but we will get confirmation in another three days.”

The source also stated that KL Rahul will be slotted in the middle-order spot if vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane, who missed the warm-up game due to a hamstring swelling, couldn’t recover in time for the first Test.

“In any case, if Ajinkya misses the first Test, it will be KL Rahul who will bat in the middle-order in Nottingham. The team management is still confident that Ajinkya might be alright before the Nottingham Test,” the source added.
