Punjab Kings (PBKS) is all set to make one more attempt to become IPL champions in IPL 2024. The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League will be played in March 2024. Punjab Kings is one of the 10 teams that will battle for the trophy in IPL 2024.

Punjab Kings is among the few unluckiest teams in the Indian Premier League who have been part of the tournament since the debut season but have not won any title so far. Punjab Kings ended as runners-up in the 2014 edition and it was their best show in IPL history.

Punjab Kings failed to qualify for playoffs in the previous edition. The Shikhar Dhawan & Boys played 14 matches during the tournament. They won 6 games and lost 8. With 12 points, they ended in the 8th spot in the points table and were nowhere in sight for playoffs.

Shikhar Dhawan was the best batter for the team last season. The PBKS skipper played 11 matches and scored 373 runs for the team. Dhawan held a dashing batting average of 41.44 and slammed 3 fifties. Prabhsimran Singh also grabbed the limelight by slamming a ton last season.

With 358 runs in 14 games, Prabhsimran Singh was the second-highest run-scorer for the team. Jitesh Sharma played 14 matches and hit 309 runs at a strike rate of 156+. With his standout show, Sharma also made his national debut for Team India later.

Among bowlers, Arshdeep Singh was the most successful bowler for Punjab Kings. The left-arm pacer clinched 17 scalps in 14 games, bowling at an average of 29.0. Nathan Ellis also showcased a stunning pace attack, hunting down 13 scalps in 10 wickets. Sam Curran was next on the list with 10 scalps.

Ahead of IPL 2024, Punjab Kings parted ways with some players from their squad. In total, the IPL 2024 runners-up dropped 7 players. Shahrukh Khan, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Matthew Short, and Shahrukh Khan are some of the key players PBKS dropped from the side.

Punjab Kings also bought 8 players into their squads ahead of IPL 2024 auction. Their costliest player was Harshal Patel at Rs. 11.75 crore. Rilee Rossouw also grabbed a costly deal of Rs. 8 crore.

Chris Woakes was offered Rs. 4.20 crore. Other players that PBKS bought were Tanay Thyagarajann, Vishwanath Pratap Singh, Ashutosh Sharma, Shashank Singh, and Prince Choudhary.

Punjab Kings has failed to win any IPL title so far. They finished as semi-finalists in the first edition in 2008. Later, they did not reach playoffs will the 2014 season, where they entered the final.

However, they lost the final to Kolkata Knight Riders in a close-fought encounter. Since the 2014 season, PBKS has never reached playoffs in any season. They will look to break the jinx of playoffs in IPL 2024.

IPL 2024 schedule has not been announced so far. BCCI is expected to release the schedule for the Indian Premier League 2024 in February end or start of March. According to reports, the Indian Premier League 2024 will start between March 23 to 27.
