Former cricketer Deep Dasgupta believes Team India made the right decision by appointing Rahul Dravid as the head coach of the senior national cricket team. Dravid will take over from outgoing coach, Ravi Shastri, from the start of the New Zealand series.
The assignment will put things into perspective as to how Dravid intends to take Indian cricket forward. Having worked with the youngsters at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Dravid can be of great use to the team and build a strong core.
“It is a brilliant move to bring Dravid in as coach. He has had a big line in establishing and developing the current pipeline of players. It is only natural that he works with the players he groomed while coaching India A and U-19. So, it is a very, very good choice,” Dasgupta said in a video on his YouTube channel.
Deep Dasgupta feels the New Zealand series will be an acid test for bowlers.
Deep Dasgupta went on to add that players like Harshal Patel and Avesh Khan, who received their maiden call-ups to the national side for the New Zealand series, will be tested. It could well be a make-or-break series for them, considering the depth that Indian cricket has.
“The series against NZ will be a huge one, and a future deciding one for Bhuvneshwar with bowlers like Harshal Patel, Arshdeep Singh, and Avesh Khan coming up to the first team now and pushing their case,” Dasgupta added.
Rohit Sharma will be leading the side in T20I’s while KL Rahul has been appointed as his deputy. Senior players Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja have been rested, while Hardik Pandya has been dropped from the team.
